A non-profit animal shelter in Lexington is called Paws 4 the Cause.
Anita Spreitzer, vice president, and general manager received an unexpected late-night call this week.
A mother dog had been dumped by a bridge, and the puppies were on the creek's bottom, according to Spreitzer.
This week alone, six canines that were abandoned in Pulaski County on the side of the road or close to the woods have been taken in. The Somerset region held most of them.
Someone once cared for the dog, Anita replied. "I mean, we've dealt with and seen dogs that were so aggressive when they first arrived. They'd retreat to a corner. This isn't like that at all.”
When the dogs were saved, according to her, they were filthy, which led to skin illnesses.
"We don't know, and I wish they could tell us, but they can't talk. I don't know if that's what caused everything. Therefore, all we can do is speculate internally about what drove this person to such desperation. We don't evaluate people based on their actions,” she stated.
Over 60 animals are now being cared for by Paws 4 the Cause. Anita remarked that she believes the number might even be the most they've ever had.
She expressed gratitude to good Samaritans for saving creatures like this through their selfless deeds.
The puppies would have been helpless. The outcome of this story could have been far worse, but instead, a village of animal-loving individuals got involved, working with good Samaritans and rescue organizations to place these animals in safe havens, Anita added.
Before deciding to abandon your pets, she advised you to consider bringing them to a nearby shelter. She added that Paws for a Cause is currently seeking new foster parents.
