At their Rainbow Village Center in Humansdorp, a local non-profit organisation called Victory4All, which provides for the educational and dietary needs of children in the Kouga region, has experienced yet another break-in, at least the 100th one since it was founded 20 years ago.
As previously reported by the Kouga Express, Johan Vos and his wife Astrid founded Victory4All about 20 years ago to break the cycle of poverty by offering Christian-based, high-quality education in Kouga.
Through the Victory4All Foundation, the two have since expanded their humanitarian efforts, establishing Noah's Ark Pre-School, five foster homes in Jeffreys Bay and three in Humansdorp, King's College Primary and High School in Oceanview, and Rainbow Village Center in Humansdorp to give education to children living with disabilities.
Despite the excellent work Johan and his wife have done, there have been several break-ins at their various centres.
Since the beginning of the year, burglars have broken into Rainbow Village's Shalom Center and Rainbow School in Humansdorp and taken property.
In Humansdorp, burglars broke into their foster homes and stole a sizable portion of their fence. Separately, thieves stole the electric pump next to one of their foster homes for the third time in three years.
The sad side of the matter is that every time they break into our offices, they vandalise the facility as well, which is what they typically do when they hurriedly steal anything and flee with whatever they can grab.
He claimed that in the past 20 years, at least 100 break-ins have taken place at their numerous locations throughout the Kouga region, leaving them frustrated.
In September, there was the most recent break-in at the Rainbow Village Center in Humansdorp, where burglars shattered a window and took a grass cutter, electric equipment, a fence, and an electric pump.
For insurance purposes, he said that they had reported every break-in to the neighbourhood police station, but they had not heard back.
We are aware of the extreme levels of crime in the region, and we think that the local police station is overloaded with cases.
Since 2020, there has been a significant spike in crime, which we hope will shortly decline.
According to Johan, they experience about 10 break-ins annually, but happily, thanks to Smart Security's prompt response, the burglars were not always successful in taking and damaging property.
Despite having a sophisticated security system, numerous goods have been stolen and the property has been destroyed, which has cost a lot of money.
"We have insurance plans, but they never pay the whole amount required, therefore they only cover a portion of the damages and stolen products. We needed the money, but the break-ins also cost us a lot of time and problems," explained Johan.
He stated that he hoped people would realise that their NPO relies entirely on donations to support the youngsters they assist.
Johan claimed that they intended to hire security guards and station-trained dogs at each location to stop the repeated break-ins at their numerous premises.
"We'll spend a fortune on these additional security measures, which is money squandered. Many children who require assistance may have benefited from the funds," according to Johan.
In the past 20 years, Victory4All's numerous facilities have seen at least 100 break-ins.
