Bright Raises $15M, Investors Include Judd Apatow, Amy Schumer, Shawn Mendes

Bright, a startup that has signed up hundreds of celebrities, artists, and influencers to conduct ticketed live Zoom events, received $15 million in funding from investors that include numerous Hollywood celebrities.

Michael Powers, a former executive at YouTube, and Guy Oseary, music management and investor whose clients include Madonna and U2, established Bright.

With Ashton Kutcher, Oseary co-founded the investment company Sound Ventures. RIT Capital and Regah Ventures also participated in the capital round. Time Ventures, Globo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and Twilio CEO and co-founder Jeff Lawson are additional investors in addition to Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff.

Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, Amy Schumer, Rachel Zoe, Drew and Jonathan Scott ("Property Brothers"), Bethenny Frankel (who also serves as an adviser), and singer Ryan Tedder are among the other private investors. Shawn Mendes and his manager Andrew Gertler's AG Ventures are another individual investor. Additionally, Jessica Alba, Kane Brown, and Maria Sharapova joined Bright as advisers.

Along with investing in Bright, Drew and Jonathan Scott, Apatow, Kutcher, Schumer, Mendes, and others have agreed to conduct events on the platform of the business.

In a statement, Apatow said, "As a proponent of lifelong learning, I'm proud to be investing in a platform like Bright, which provides viewers with the exceptional chance to learn directly from the artists and experts they most respect. I can communicate with and impart my skills to other writers, budding filmmakers, and comedy fans through Bright.”

On top of the Zoom videoconferencing platform, Bright (brightlive.com) is designed with the premise that its well-known hosts are giving the audience members intimate, engaging experiences. Tickets range from $25 to $150, and each session lasts between one and two hours. The designers themselves determine ticket rates.

Bright has drawn more than 300 celebrities, artists, and influencers for upcoming sessions on the platform since its May launch. These people include D-Nice, Laura Dern, Deepak Chopra, Lindsey Vonn, Diego Boneta, Jason Bolden, Yris Palmer, Cat & Nat, Ronnie2K, and Chef Ludo Lefebvre.

Bright will launch the Creator Studio, a collection of tools for managing learning sessions, interacting with audiences, and monitoring revenue performance, according to Powers, using the new money.

"Through Bright, performers can better engage honestly with viewers by sharing their knowledge and bringing their many hobbies and passions to the fore," said Powers in a statement. They are eager to launch their new features to advance their platform and purpose.
