An 11-year-old boy presents flowers to King Soopers staff following the mass shooting

Cool Story - An 11-year-old boy presents flowers to King Soopers staff following the mass shooting

Jody Witmer had to tell her 11-year-old son, JJ, that a shooter had killed 10 people, three of whom were employees, the day after the mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, Colorado.

JJ said he was heartbroken for the victims and couldn't fathom how King Soopers employees around the state were feeling about having to report to work the next day.

JJ asked his mother if they could deliver flowers to supermarkets in Brighton, where they live which is approximately 30 miles from Boulder, and in Commerce City to make their day brighter. Given how frequently JJ volunteers her time to assist neighbors with tasks like putting out their trash, Witmer said she wasn't shocked.

JJ received a discount from a florist at the Brighton King Soopers to buy several bouquets, which he shared with each employee in the store for around 45 minutes to express his gratitude for all they had done. Some of the workers started to cry as they exchanged hugs and smiles.

The two then visited the Commerce City shop, where Jody and JJ are regulars and are acquainted with many of the employees.

A different consumer approached JJ and said, "I hate to admit it, but I just started crying while listening to you. This affects me deeply today because my wife works as a manager at a King Soopers." JJ also gave that man a flower.

When they went home, Witmer claimed that JJ had expressed gratitude for having aided so many workers that day. She posted their tale on Facebook in the hopes that it would encourage people to lend a hand when others needed it most.

She remarked, "It's fantastic that people are acting.”
