On Wednesday, a therapeutic riding teacher named Jessica Arts instructs a group of 15 brand-new volunteers at Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center.
The horses come from a variety of backgrounds, including street patrol in Denver and barrel racing at county fairs.
However, each horse at Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center earned the title of therapy horse by putting their old jobs behind them and concentrating on a new career just before they reached retirement age: providing secure rides to people with a variety of disabilities, including developmental disorders, intellectual and learning disabilities, brain trauma, spinal cord injuries, broken limbs, strokes, mental health difficulties, and more.
