In such unpredictable times, it doesn’t take much for a crisis to befall a person. Even the most sufficient people can face problems especially financially. Maybe a landlord would kick someone for no reason, or the breadwinner in the family might get sick and lose their job or someone might need to relocate to get a new job, but they don’t have the means to. In those times a small, financial stopgap could alleviate burdens and protect the person from more dire situations. It could bridge the gap between staying self-sufficient and losing everything.
Modest Needs is a tax-exempt charity where you can make small, emergency grants to low-income workers who're at risk of slipping into poverty and for whom no other source of immediate help is available.
They are a unique charity started in 2002, with 3 main goals:
· To provide short-term financial assistance to families or individuals in a crisis. These are people living just above the poverty level and are not eligible for other social help and just one crisis might tip the scales into homelessness.
· To help the state by keeping these individuals from slipping into the cycle of poverty even when no emergency expense is anticipated in the future.
· To promote compassion and generosity on the part of individual persons living in the United States and Canada no matter how much (or how little) a person must share.
Modest Needs' hallmark grant is their Self-Sufficiency Grant. With this grant, they aim to support individuals who are not eligible for assistance from conventional agencies so that due to a crisis they don’t lose everything. They also provide this grant to cover Monthly bills that an individual or family living paycheck-to-paycheck cannot afford to pay at the time of their application because of a documentable extenuating circumstance that occurred within the past year.
Whatever donations are made by donors are not given to the applicant rather it is directly given to the creditor or vendor named in the applicant's documentation. This way the donor always knows for certain that the funds they've made available to our qualified applicants serve only the purpose for which they were intended. In addition to this transparency in operation, no applicant or donor is charged a fee with a no strings attached grant given to the applicant. The applicant is only encouraged to thank their donor instead.
You can find out more information about the rules of grants on their website.
