TEEN STARTS NON-PROFIT CREATING HYGIENE KITS FOR HOMELESS

Cool Story - TEEN STARTS NON-PROFIT CREATING HYGIENE KITS FOR HOMELESS

Bright Lights is a nonprofit founded by 16-year-old Connor Farrell and his family in the summer of 2020 from his kitchen table in Greeneville, South Carolina. They are supporting the homeless by providing them with hygiene kits that they pack in their house. These hygiene kits include razors, washcloths, soap, toothbrushes, lotion, and deodorant. Each month they fill 100 kits but their goal is to fill 3000 kits a year so that even the homeless can enjoy access to hygiene.

In the county of Greenville, South Carolina there are more than 3000 men and women, and children who are homeless according to the Greenville homeless alliance. During the pandemic, even the well-off found it difficult to get access to hygiene supplies, and even if you could they were pricey. It was difficult for people without a home to get these essential products. That is why Farrell started to produce hygiene supply gets from his house during the pandemic in 2020.

Friends and family even before the pandemic used to distribute these skits to the homeless whenever they would drive back from school. But during the pandemic, they decided to do even more. They contacted the Pastor of Triune Mercy Center and the Site Coordinator at Catholic Charities in Greenville, South Carolina, and established a monthly drop-off of hygiene kits.

Each month they drop off the kids adding the Triune mercy center and the Catholic Church in South Carolina. It's such a huge help in a small package. Maggie Farrell says that the people receiving these kids are extremely grateful and they are happy with the impact they've had on some people’s lives. She said it makes their family extremely grateful for what they have.

They are a much smaller nonprofit they got registered officially in 2021 October with a grant from Global Youth Mobilization. This year they raised over $20,000 to buy more supplies for kits. their goal is to give 3000 kids this year so make sure to donate if you're interested or just visit their website.
