During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, nearly seven million Ukrainians were displaced from their homes and left Ukraine but also had to left behind their pet animals. Now, these domesticated animals ended up on the streets of Ukraine unguarded, hungry, and vulnerable to bomb attacks.
The government stopped the spay and neuter program due to which millions of animals were wandering around Ukraine or stuffed into already full shelters. So, clinics needed to be provided to the shelters to prevent an increase in animal populations because there won't be enough food for the large number of animals produced because of lacking medical care.
Back in June 2022, a US non-profit call the Ukrainian Animals War Relief announced relief funds to create a web technology powered by Microsoft to get food medicine, and supplies to Ukrainian animal shelters in groups. They aim to create a comprehensive database of Ukrainian pets so they can be provided food shelter and vaccinations as well as help the shelters housing these pets. This web portal will connect aid workers all over the country and allow them to request more supplies when required.
To help ARF its founder and Seattle native and Dot Com serial tech entrepreneur Dan Fine started a go fund me In July 2022 which helped deliver 18 tons of pet food, and medical supplies with cooperation from Dogsnhomes Rescue from the UK to shelters in Ukraine.
Dogsnhomes Rescue is working in partnership with ARF to provide aid to abandoned pets in Ukraine. They have already delivered 40 tons of aid since the start of the war and in July they delivered or word 20 tons of food and supplies to a warehouse on the Polish Ukrainian border again.
When the age arrives in Poland volunteers from dogs in homes rescue will travel to meet the RF team. Not only will these two partners deliver aid but will also visit shelters with their volunteers to spay and neuter 100s of animals each day to prevent unwanted breeding.
These animals will also be chipped and photographed and have their data entered into the database. This method will help owners reunite with their animals or be adopted by other families.
The founder of ARF Dan Fine started this initiative when he saw the helpless Ukrainians leave behind their pets no matter how it broke their hearts. He then started ARF to protect those innocent animals. The co-founder of Dogsnhomes Rescue was also delighted to work with ARF as a team since it helped deliver aid on a larger scale than before.
Donate to DogsnHomes now to help innocent animals live better lives. You can also donate food bags which should be dropped off at The Tree House, 25 Sandy Lane, Church Crookham, GU52 8LA. If you can’t donate food, then you can donate to them via Paypal here: donate@dogsnhomes.org.uk
