Those who choose to serve in the military make constant sacrifices everyday. They put their lives on the line to protect our rights and keep us safe. After returning home or during their time in the military, these soldiers need support to keep going, or to return to civilian life. Soldiers' Angels is there to provide that support. Their job is to provide consolation, help, and services to those serving in either the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and their families. The number of veterans is growing, and it’s only going to increase. Soldiers' Angels has a great number of volunteers helping wounded veterans or those currently in service. Each year, 515,300 service members, veterans, and those from military families are assisted by Soldiers' Angels.
Our veterans selflessly go out into danger to protect those they love, and people they’ll never meet. Soldiers' Angels’ mission is to give these veterans their aid, because they have given us so much. They have volunteers ready to help all over the world. All 50 states, Washington DC, and 31 countries overseas are represented by the volunteers at Soldiers' Angels. Life during and/or after service can be difficult for those serving. Soldiers' Angels has many different programs and services designed to help veterans in a variety of situations. This organization works while sticking to its seven main principles: compassion, dedication, effectiveness, efficiency, collaboration, credibility, and responsiveness.
It’s easy for a soldier that’s been deployed to feel alone and like no one cares. That’s where Soldiers' Angels’ Deployed Support program comes into play. This program provides crucial comfort and consolation during a soldier’s deployment. When a soldier signs up for this program, they’re entitled to receive cards, care packages, and anything else depending on their needs. In addition to what you would receive normally with this program, a soldier can also sign up for additional add-ons. Team Angel Bakers will provide a soldier with homemade baked goods, while Team Baby Brigade will provide support for an expecting spouse of a soldier and a virtual baby shower.
Veterans don’t just need support while on the battlefield. Returning to civilian life presents challenges to veterans returning home. Soldiers' Angels has the support these veterans need when the battle is over. One thing they do provide support in VA hospitals. Veterans of all ages are visited by volunteers at Soldiers' Angels. These volunteers will provide meaningful conversation with veteran patients and provide comforting items such as blankets and magazines. Soldiers' Angels also arranges luncheons and dinners, giving these veterans a chance to enjoy a home-cooked meal.
One unfortunate fact is that many veterans face homelessness, low-income, or are at-risk. Where there are homeless and low-income veterans, Soldiers' Angels will be there to provide assistance. Each month, they have Veteran Mobile Food Distribution events. 75 pounds of food are given to each veteran and their families at no cost to them. Soldiers' Angels also provides box lunches and hygiene kits for veteran patients. The hospital workers distribute these crucial supplies to the patients. The box lunches and hygiene kits are also passed out at VA Stand Downs.
Soldiers' Angels has different teams of Angels that provide assistance to families of veterans. The services each team provides depends on different qualifying factors. One service they have is the Soldiers’ Angels Holiday Adopt-A-Family program. This program allows veterans and their families to have holiday celebrations. Families that qualify will(at least) receive presents and a gift card for a holiday feast.
