The Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation has received a $10,000 emergency grant from the American Land Title Group (ALTA) Good Deeds Foundation, a licensed 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed by ALTA, the national trade group for the land title insurance industry. The fund is offering quick-deployable financial resources with a focus on rapid reaction and recovery from the recent tragic, destructive wildfires on the island of Maui in Hawaii.
The American Red Cross (Pacific Islands Region), which is concentrating on housing people who have been displaced by the fires, the Family Life Center, which is providing shelter services in Kahului, Hawaii, and is at capacity, the Maui Economic Opportunity, which is securing transitional housing for those affected by the Maui fires, and many other organizations have already received more than $4.3 million from the Maui Strong Fund thanks to its quick work.
The emergency donation was given by the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation Board in response to the Maui fires, which claimed the lives of over 100 people and forced more than 1,400 others to flee their homes.
"ALTA and its members are grieving for our family, friends, and communities impacted by the tragedy in Maui," said Diane Tomb, CEO of ALTA. The association was informed by an ALTA member on the ground that they are witnessing the "grace and kindness people can muster amid trauma." The ALTA Good Deeds Foundation's emergency funding will assist in facilitating the vital work being done in direct response to Maui's needs.
Westcor Land Title Insurance Co. president and CEO Mary O'Donnell from Maitland, Florida said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the people on the island of Maui, especially those who lost or are missing a loved one or no longer have a home or business." "The Maui wildfires caused devastation that will continue for years. We can help with basic requirements and, perhaps, the restoration of a paradise thanks to the assistance of the ALTA members for the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation.
The ALTA Good Deeds Foundation has given $739,000 in grants to 125 neighborhood groups in 41 states and the District of Columbia since October 2020.
