Purina stated it will donate $25,000 to Greater Good Charities to support its crisis relief efforts in giving immediate and long-term healing to the animals and people in Hawaii as the flames continue to burn in what is being termed one of Hawaii's worst natural catastrophes.
Kim Beardslee, director of community affairs at Purina, stated on behalf of the company saying, "Our hearts go out to the families and pets being affected by these wildfires, as well as to the communities that are experiencing such a catastrophic loss." "We have a long history of rescuing people and animals in times of need, and we will keep working with our partners to offer support in any way we can."

The historic town of Lahaina sustained the heaviest damage from the fires, which started on August 8, 2023. The town of Lahaina, formerly the royal capital of Hawaii, has been destroyed by the fire; those who have fled there have described it as a "total inferno."
The Upcountry/Kula fire is currently 60% contained, the Lahaina fire is 85% controlled, the Pulehu/Kihei fire is still 100% contained, and the Puukolii/Kaanapali fire was put out on August 12. The county also clarified that when a fire is entirely contained, it does not mean that it has been put out; rather, it means that firefighters have completely enclosed it inside a burnable perimeter. When a fire is declared out, it signifies that the local authorities are confident that nothing is still burning.
Emergency shelters are accessible to those escaping the fires, but animals must be securely restrained inside. There are emergency shelters in the following locations:
· Kahului's King's Cathedral Maui is located at 777 Maui Veteran's Highway
· The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located at 1300 Maui Lani Parkway in Kahului
· Kihei War Memorial Gymnasium, Wailuku
· South Maui Community Park Gymnasium
The cause of these fires is still unknown, and officials have stated that it will be several weeks before they know how many people died in total. Visit www.greatergood.org if you want to learn more about the initiatives or donate to Greater Good Charities' Disaster Response.
