The parent business of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), is introducing its third annual in-store community donation initiative, which will benefit more than 420 K–12 schools and school systems across the Southeast. Customers can donate $1, $5, or round up their purchase at checkout now through August 29 to support funding essential educational programs and resources for schools to guarantee a good start to the new school year.
Customers can purchase a Community Bag with a Giving Tag for $2.99 at any Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, or Winn-Dixie location to assist their neighborhood schools as well as the environment. One dollar will be donated to the store's preferred school or school district for each reusable bag purchased.
We sincerely think that education is the cornerstone upon which a great community is founded, according to Raymond Rhee, Chief People Officer for Southeastern Grocers. In addition to giving students the resources they require through our community donation initiative, we also strengthen community cohesion and support. As we work together to create better futures for our children, who are our future leaders, and to foster vibrant communities for future generations, every donation has a major influence.
SEG recently gave college scholarships worth $84,000 to 28 full- and part-time employees as part of its ongoing commitment to advancing education. Since its beginning in 2020, the SEG Scholarship Program has awarded $212,000 in scholarships. The scholarship program encourages interested associates with a high school diploma or an equivalent degree and at least six months of employment to apply. The 28 worthy scholarship recipients this year each earned $3,000 to aid with the costs of the forthcoming semester.
Additionally, SEG is assisting clients in stretching their budgets as the National Retail Federation anticipates new record-high spending during the back-to-school season. When compared to national brand products, SEG's collection of Own Brand products includes more than 8,000 high-quality items, including school staples, delectable breakfast alternatives, and simple lunch options, and offers average savings of 20%.
Winn-Dixie's "Down Down" program, which offers lower prices on more than 150 frequently purchased items each season to help customers save more than 15% on average at their neighborhood store, offers extra savings opportunities for customers. Customers can find discounted items marked with a red hand on signs and tags throughout Winn-Dixie stores thanks to the grocer's "Down Down" initiative. Similar to Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket, items identified with yellow and green signage are a part of the "Low Price" and "Low Low Price" programs, which offer families significant savings during back-to-school shopping.
