The Greater Shepparton City Council will take donations of gently used children's books from Monday, August 14 to Wednesday, August 30 as part of its annual campaign.
The drive falls during Children's Book Week, which takes place from Saturday, August 19, to Friday, August 25, and is sponsored by the Children's Book Council of Australia.
Belinda Whitelaw, the co-ordinator of Council's Best Start, stated that the program's primary goal was to develop young people's linguistic and literary abilities.
You'll not only be assisting in the decluttering of your home but also making a huge contribution to the community and the future of children, according to Ms. Whitelaw, by giving your children's board and picture books a second life.
Council hopes that this year's Best Start Book Drive will be the most successful one yet because the Best Start program heavily depends on regular donations of children's boards and picture books.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, community members can contribute their gently used books to the council offices. If you are unable to drop off your books, you can arrange for a pick-up by calling Belinda Schmedje, the early year's project officer, at 5832 9806.
