The local organization collecting donations for Maui wildfire disaster relief

Cool Story - The local organization collecting donations for Maui wildfire disaster relief

At least one local charity is stepping up right now to assist those affected as thousands of Maui residents have been forced to evacuate.

A member of the Maui Mutual Aid Fund who lives in Maui was interviewed by KITV4. It raises money for those in need during trying times.

A team of volunteers called the Maui Mutual Aid Fund raises money and gifts. Since the Maui flames began earlier this week, it has fielded numerous calls. The volunteer group compiles a "needs list" and publishes it on their social media profiles.

It requests that members of the public give what they can to support those who are in need at this time.

"If you have never provided mutual aid or responded to a disaster but feel that you are being asked to do so at this time, give us a call. The Maui Mutual Aid Fund volunteer Nicole Haguenin stated, "We have a volunteer who will lead you through some very basic processes and will connect you to the network.

Help will be given first to those in the neighborhood who are most in need. Kupuna, people with impairments, and people without insurance are all included in this. Volunteers urge you to think about contributing if you can.

Don't be scared to seek assistance if you need resources or support.

"Don't be afraid. Don't be modest. Ask for assistance," added Haguenin.

Volunteers urge you to think about contributing if you can. Every donation, no matter how large or small, is said to make a difference.

Visit the organization's FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM pages for more updates on how to give and drop off donations.

According to Maui Mutual Aid Fund, they will make an effort to assist as many members of the neighborhood as they can, but they need these funds to do so.
