Many people regard the US Marine Corps Memorial in Golden as sacred territory. Therefore, when it was damaged in the most recent flooding, our kind-hearted Denver7 viewers donated from the bottom of their hearts and wallets.
The approximately 50-year-old monument is beginning to look dated. The electrical equipment that powers the outlets and flag lights was harmed by recent rains. The effect is that the flag poles have been bare for some weeks.
Numerous people contributed to the Denver7 Gives fund and the "Light the Flags" fundraiser for the USMC Memorial Foundation after our article aired on July 12th. Over $7,600 in contributions were made in total.
It goes a long way, and even better were the volunteers who came to mend it. The head of the USMC Memorial Foundation, Paula Sarlls, a Marine veteran, stated, "We've got like five companies who want to contribute. "Every time the tale was broadcast, we saw $10, $15, or even $50 occasionally. Additionally, we received a few $1,000 donations. I am aware that some of those people were not wealthy. One man made a monthly $5 donation.
By the end of July, according to Sarlls, bids are to be received, and by the end of August, the electricity should be fixed, in time for the 46th anniversary ceremony on August 26.
Denver7 tells the stories of those in need, and now you can assist them by making a financial contribution through Denver7 Gives. Contributions to the fund will only be used to support members of our neighborhood.
