A donation of $20,000 has been made to the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society.
The funding was provided by DocuPet, the society's recognized pet licensing partner.
DocuPet began collaborating with the neighborhood SPCA in 2016 to give locals access to an online platform for licensing pets and aiding in pet reunions by providing contact information.
The payment was made possible by DocuPet's Safe&Happy Fund, which collects direct resident donations as well as automatic donations through the sale of designer license tags.
The shelter, which took in more than 2,200 animals in 2022, will be able to provide shelter, veterinary care, and assistance with animal adoption thanks to the $20,000 grant.
"These animals frequently need expensive veterinary treatment.”
According to SPCA Executive Director John Greer, a donation of this size can help a lot of animals that are in need and give them the second opportunity they so richly deserve.
When Animal Services receives a phone about a lost dog, John Greer describes the impact of pet licensing by using the example that "if the dog is wearing a license tag, often the officers don't even need to visit the area if the dog's owner can be contacted immediately and reunited." This enables already-busy cops to address other urgent issues more quickly.
The society's website features a list of pets that are available for adoption.
To celebrate this donation, DocuPet is offering $5 off a regularly priced designer tag for all Niagara pet owners with promo code NSPCA5 at checkout.
