Come together to clean up the neighbor

Cool Story - Come together to clean up the neighbor

Although the wind and rain have split communities, they are also drawing neighbors together. North Oak Park is littered with uprooted trees and stray branches.

An enormous tree limb fell on a car in one neighborhood.

"It was quite frightening, and it was also quite loud. Concerns about homes, vehicles, and people outside were widespread" Noelle Szombathy stated.

Szombathy then noticed something that she had never before noticed on her street. She observed the first gatherings in her neighborhood. Families expanded beyond their neighbors. They moved in close by.

"Szombathy recalled hearing many people shouting across the street, "Hey, are you guys ok?" "Another neighbor with chainsaws came over to help.

Two chainsaws were used to hack the tree up. The whole neighborhood poured out. Before the city could even get there, everyone cleaned up the street, even my young daughter, who is only two years old.

People are becoming more extroverted as a result of the fallen trees, transforming a neighborhood into a community.

Allyson Seconds stated, "These two heaps were created by neighbors pitching in when a big branch fell in the road. It conveys much about humanity. When someone is in need, others help. It's pretty fantastic.”

"It unquestionably gave me a sense of confidence and inclusion in my community. I witnessed everyone pitching in, and it made me realize how much of a community we are," Szombathy added.

The acts of kindness don't end here. Seconds is the bandleader of Sacramento Picks It Up as well. Volunteers will be out clearing storm debris from rivers and streams as soon as the weather clears and it is safe to do so.
