Cool Story - Participate in Charity boxing event to raise money and awareness for children and adults in Peterborough with Down's syndrome

Charity boxing event raising money and awareness for children and adults in Peterborough with Down's syndrome

An upcoming charity boxing match will help raise funds and awareness for a group that helps Peterborough residents with Down syndrome who are children and adults.

This year's event will take place on the evening of February 18 at Top Yard School of Boxing Peterborough in Newark Road.

The event, which is being organized by a self-described motivational speaker and creator of Unspoken Atiq Rehman, will support the Peterborough Area Down's Syndrome Group.

Atiq stated, "We want to support them as much as we can and communicate how beautiful and inspiring these kids are in our city.”

In the main event, Atiq, who was one of the organizers of a Good Deeds marathon for 24 hours, will square off against Rhys Nathan Bowyer, a person with Down syndrome.

The second fight takes place in the wake of last year's first fight, which Rhys won by knocking out Atiq.

"I have never encountered such a remarkable person who is so fearless and full of life," Atiq added. "Watching these kids participate in the boxing practice was great, and I've seen such a shift in him since he won.”

"I want to help them by raising as much money as I can and by spreading knowledge so that people will recognize a child with Down syndrome and encourage them to participate and shine.”

"The communities, people, and talents of Peterborough are incredible. I merely want people to awaken and recognize the positive.”
